A fun trend out there for the crafting world is the use of word
balloons or thought bubbles. They have migrated from comic books to
scrapbook pages, to card making, and to home decor. Stamps, die cuts and
fun word-bubble patterned papers have flooded the scrapbook market and
are being used in many paper crafts. Since it is December, I am going to
show you two different ways to use them on some simple Christmas cards.
These cards are so easy that you could do them in an assembly-line
fashion and make a ton of cards in no time at all.
For the first Christmas card, I started by knowing that I wanted to use a
reverse die-cut word balloon for my focal point. Using my Silhouette Cameo and red cardstock, I die cut the word balloon with the word "Joy" inside.
I then traced the word in pencil on a piece of 3 1/2" by 5" white cardstock where I wanted the die cut to be placed.
I then glued green sequins over the penciled word, making sure the
sequins did not overlap but were as close together as I could get them.
You might have to cut some to fit in the spaces but you cannot tell when
the card is complete. I then let the sequins dry.
***tip: a clear glue like Glossy Accents is best for gluing the
sequins down. Also, keep a Q-tip handy to clean up any extra glue that
might seep onto the card. I did not do this and wish I had because you
can see it through the little holes in the sequins.
I wanted to keep the card extremely simple so using foam
adhesive, I adhered the white piece of cardstock with the sequins to a 4
1/4" by 5 1/2" white card. My last step was to adhere the die-cut word
balloon over the sequined area using more foam adhesive.
The sequins sparkle as the light hits them and it looks so cool.
Good luck!!!
